The Longest Day

by Hugh A Tague

On this special Summer Solstice day
the great sun keeps the night at bay
but still the moon comes out to play
alongside the sun’s life giving rays.

Rejoice and bask in the extended heat
forever mother nighttime can not sleep
her promise to us all she must keep
into the daytime the night shall creep.

But for now fun in the sun lie ahead
winter’s cold wind now officially shed
long days on the beach then late to bed
dreams of sea’s waves crashing in my head.

Nature’s sweet gift of summer abounds
afternoon’s hot sun bakes the ground
childhood memories once lost now found
a universal wonder, never ceasing to astound.
